On their 2014 release, They Want My Soul, Spoon showcased their classic head-bobbing drum-heavy rock & roll with a new inventive edge. Synthesizers and drum-machines infused liquid hit, “Inside Out,” and closing track, “New York Kiss.” Britt Daniel and his band of indie-rockers have always been able to blend catchy with futuristic and respectable. “Hot Thoughts” proves to continue their two-decade-long artistic formula: three-minute masterpieces that you will sing all day. This single, the first off their upcoming March LP release, Hot Thoughts, is comprised of layers that are somehow simultaneously grounding and uplifting. There are stringy synths, backdrop drums, charming xylophone, shakers and a ferocious guitar lick. These layers ebb and flow like a river at hyper-speed, crisscrossing through multiple channels. “Hot Thoughts all in your mind all of the time”? I so believe so.
