Milk and Bone are a Montreal-based band that hasn’t quite surfaced in pop culture yet. The group is made up of two first nation women named Laurence Lafond-Beaulne and Camille Poliquin who have crisp, angelic voices. They write and produce all of their own music including their 2015 debut, “Little Mourning” and this brand new track “Natalie.” The lyrics aren’t complicated: “I never meant to hurt you/please never go away,” and there isn’t much instrumentation besides a fanning synthesizer and a progressing drum beat. However, the production is flawless with beautiful building vocal layers, and a meditative echo that capture a distant mood of muted pain. As you listen, you’ll feel relaxed even though the message comes from a confused perspective full of regretful confidence, ultimately giving off a very realistic feel. This song reminds us of those moments when you’re alone at night fading through the troublesome situations filling your mind.
