EL VY, a scraggly duo comprised of the National’s Matt Berninger (vocals) and Brent Knopf (musician/producer) from Ramona Falls and Menomena, has just released their first track since last year’s debut album, Return to the Moon. Both critics and fans are still somewhat confused what to make of this group due to the lyrical disconnectedness and weirdly playful instrumentals. We loved the vibe of their first album, which leaves you with the feeling of watching a dark comedy, like “Death to Smoochy” starring Robin Williams (RIP) as Randolph Smiley. Here, however, they are getting political and maybe for the first time, their lyrics make perfect sense.

This brand new track entitled, “Are These My Jets?” is song number eight on 30 Days, 30 Songs, a 30 song countdown to the United States Presidential Election on November 8th. The point of this mix is to bring awareness to the total evil that is Donald Drumpf, or should we say, Donald Drumpf. Groups such as R.E.M., Death Cab For Cutie, Franz Ferdinand, Jim James and more have already shared anti-Drumpf ballads with names like, “Million Dollar Loan,” “Same Old Lie,” and “With Love From Russia.” And there isn’t just one track that is entitled, “The Demagogue,” there are two.

So what did EL VY’s contribution contain? At first, we were a bit confused due to the reappearing line: “Walrus dick jewelry for everyone in America!” but according to a statement Berninger released about the song, he claims that walrus penis jewelry is a real thing, and we now see what he means. “Are these My Jets” is a track that takes on Drumpf’s imagined perspective (but definitely not far off). So what’s a day like in the life of the Donald? Pretty fucking hilarious. According to EL VY, he wakes up with bluebirds committing suicide on his own shoulders; he feels American at the top of a moving staircase; he reminisces about being lonely in college; he talks to his father’s “Lego skull” before he goes to bed; and he can’t seem to offer anything more to Americans than walrus dick jewelry.

The catchy chorus:
“Are these my jets? / I like to mix ladies’ drinks with my fingers / Are these my jets?”

Our favorite verses:
“I was rocking back and forth / Feeding on the fear, of course / Wondering what I’m gonna do today”
AND
“Esta es la joya que les prometi / La verga de la morsa / Esta es la joya que les prometi / La verga de la morsa”
Translation: “This was the jewel that was promised them, Walrus cock.”

So thank you, EL VY, for showing us what Drumpf really is and helping to prevent him from becoming President Walrus Cock.

To make everything about this just a bit better, EL VY’s music video for this track incorporates a video game they made. Berninger is playing the game in the top right corner as a little walrus wiener who is also a fighter-pilot shoots down objects with President Abraham Lincoln continuously crying in the background. God Bless, play it here .
